Here Dimitria shares her recipe for pasteli – a Greek Sesame, Nut & Honey Slice – with her fun and funky vibe. This recipe was shared with her by her mother’s friend, also named Dimitria. She regularly makes this delicious, nutty treat for family and friends to rave reviews! Make it part of your repeat treat repertoire too!

Dimitria’s Pasteli

  • 450 g sesame seeds
  • 70 g sunflower seeds
  • 55 g pepitas
  • 150 g raw almonds
  • 225 g sugar
  • 150 g honey

Preparing the pasteli…

  1. Add all of the ingredients to alarge stainless-steel pot

  2. Stir continuously with a woodenspoon on high heat (be sure to hold the wooden spoon close to its head to aidstirring when the mixture thickens)

  3. The sugar and honey will meltand the sesame seeds will begin to toast

  4. Once the toasty aroma emerges,reduce the heat a little

  5. Continue heating and stirringuntil the aroma emerges again, then reduce the heat a little again

  6. Continue heating and stirringuntil the sesame seeds are golden-brown and the mixture thickens – this takesapproximately 10 minutes

  7. Working quickly, pour themixture onto a large wooden chopping board and then either using a wooden spoonand/or the palms of your hands (cooled with a bit of cold water) tap out themixture into a square or rectangle approximately 1.5-2cm thick

  8. Allow the pasteli to cool andset for about 10 minutes, before cutting it with a sharp knife, into small evensized squares or diamond shaped pieces

Serving the Pasteli

  1. Serve and enjoy!
